Full Description

Somali Education Centre (SEC) is a well established charity organisation based in Islington for over a decade, working closely with Islington Ethnic Minority Achievment Service (EMAS), Cambdridge Education at Islington, continYOU which is the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education, Mother Tongue and Supplementary Schools Partnership (MTSSP) and a number of other educational organisations in providing supplementary education, homework clubs, ESOL and a number of other community focused projects. We also run weekend and evening tuition centre as well as a homeschooling support centre during the weekdays for parents that home school their children. We are in partnership with several local schools in Islington such as Ambler Primary School, Pooles Park, Hungerford School and Highbury Quadrant and Highbury Fields Secondary School in providing homework clubs and after school supplementary education. We have directly supported close to 400 students since our inception over 10 years ago and continue to do so.
Aims and objectives are:
To raise the educational achievement of Somali children in Islington and the surrounding areas.
To provide individual advice and counselling for children who have learning difficulties at school or at home
To advocate and represent those excluded from schools
To promote the social inclusion for the Somali Community
To run after school homework clubs for primary and secondary school children
To run supplementary schools & mother tongue activities
To provide skills training for parents and young adults
To facilitate and provide courses for Life Long Learners
